Chapter Fifteen

Albeit, I was certain Billy had gotten my drift, we made sure to drive the point home by showing up to his church service, grocery store, and even the doctor’s office. Things had been quiet for almost two weeks and I was back to getting money.

“I hate I gotta go home. I had so much fun up here with y’all.” Blondie sipped from the straw in her cup. We were sitting at one of the booths in the Coliseum, a popular strip club in Detroit. Today was finally our meeting with the mob about expanding the business to Atlanta. For the occasion, Ali and I rented the entire venue strictly for Mr. Pauletti and his crew. The mafia liked privacy. More importantly, after coming home from prison, I was certain all a nigga wanted was a big booty and a beer. Italians pretended not to favor black pussy which is why I selected the Coliseum; the women in there were comprised of various flavors.

“You must be Jane Doe.” Anthony approached the booth with two men at his side.

“Mr. Pauletti, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” I stood to hug him. He kissed both sides of my face then we all sat down.

“Is all of this for us?” He stared around the club in amazement. The place was empty; yet, every dancer in the building worked as if the place was standing room only.

“All for you.” I beckoned for the waitress to bring an oversized bottle of Ace of Spades that was chillin’ on ice.

“I like your style.” Mr. Pauletti waited until after the waitress filled everyone’s glass before raising his in a toast. “To new beginnings.”

“To new beginnings.” We all repeated.

“Salute!” He smiled before tipping his glass.

“Why do you think Atlanta is a good place to expand?” A younger male asked from the left of Anthony. He didn’t appear to be happy about the meeting.

“The city of Atlanta is surrounded by thirty-nine counties in North Georgia with an estimated population of six point one million people. These individuals consist of actors, ball players, and lawyers with big habits, and even bigger bank accounts. Once we set up and acquire a consistent buyer’s market, the money will practically come in dump trucks.” I sipped the champagne before continuing. “I don’t know about you, but I like making money that I don’t have to work for.” The table erupted into laughter.

“What sets you apart from every other nigga in Atlanta trying to get fast money?” The young man asked. I swear the room got so quiet you could hear a cotton ball drop. After looking each man in their eyes, I chose my words carefully.

“Call me a nigga again and I’ll show you what sets me apart.”

“Come on Luis!” Mr. Pauletti shook his head disapprovingly. “Watch your mouth.”

“But Dad...” Whap! He backhanded the boy with a closed fist. I later learned that Luis was Mr. Pauletti’s son from a previous marriage. He was the black sheep of the family business and would become a major thorn in my ass.
